In Banking and Finance, Risk Management is focused on the identification, the measurement, and the mitigation of different risk types. Several mathematical techniques and concepts from Finance are applied to quantify different types of risk.

This enables Risk Managers to take appropriate measures and mitigate the risks within a financial institution. In order to succeed in the long term, a company has to know the risk types that they are facing and how to manage them actively.

# Structure

In the first part, the fundamentals of asset management are taught in a theoretically sound and practical manner. Along the investment process, topics such as portfolio optimization, efficient markets, investment strategies as well as the valuation and selection of stocks and bonds are highlighted. The knowledge acquired is then applied practically in a second part in a web-based simulation, with responsibility for the strategic and tactical investment strategy as well as the business management of a department.

In the course, various methods of business valuation as well as special cases of valuation (e.g. of banks and state-owned enterprises) are considered and current trends in the field of M&A are highlighted. In recent years, an international movement called "Placemaking" has been established that systematically examines the success factors of vibrant urban spaces and neighborhoods and shows what can be generalized and transferred to other situations. Die Europäische Zentralbank (EZB) hat 2021 Klimarisiken als wesentliche Risikofaktoren in die sogenannte SSM Risk Map aufgenommen. Die Forschenden der Wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Zürich gehen unter anderem der Frage nach, wie sich diese Risiken quantifizieren lassen und welche Massnahmen zur Risikoreduktion ergriffen werden können.

The European Central Bank (ECB) has included climate risks as material risk factors in the so-called SSM Risk Map in 2021. Researchers at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics at the University of Zurich are investigating, among other things, how these risks can be quantified and what measures can be taken to reduce the risks.

According to urban researcher Richard Florida, a fear of mass transit developed among many people during the pandemic, as he recently presented at a panel of the Center for Urban & Real Estate Management at the University of Zurich (CUREM). CUREM and its continuing education programs focus, among other things, on how such and other developments are currently changing the function, perception, and valuation of office real estate.

Managers in the Swiss healthcare sector have to manage numerous challenges simultaneously, such as coping with rising costs, ensuring high-quality patient care, adapting to new technologies and digitalization, attracting and retaining qualified specialists and coping with regulatory requirements and political changes. They must also respond to rising patient expectations and the increasing complexity of the healthcare system. We discuss how to deal with these and similar issues in the "CAS Medical Leadership" course.

Wichtig scheint im Umgang mit Hype-Technologien, nicht einfach nach neuen Anwendungen zu suchen. In the CAS Corporate Finance, we answer this question together and discuss how much capital is necessary for survival and for growth and how the relationship between equity and debt can be ideally structured to finance companies.

Such structured products combine bonds with derivatives and allow the client to map their personal market expectations. The CAS in Derivatives provides a basic understanding of the various types of derivatives, before focusing on not only the construction and valuation, but also the critical reflection of structured products.

Smart-Beta verspricht das Beste aus den beiden Welten aktive und passive Anlagestrategien. So versprechen Smart-Beta Anlagestrategien beispielsweise durch Faktor-basiertes Investieren, Alpha zu erwirtschaften und gleichzeitig günstiger wie aktive Anlagefonds zu sein. Im CAS Investment Management werden unterschiedliche Anlagestile wissenschaftlich fundiert auf ihre Tauglichkeit in der Praxis hin analysiert.

Smart beta promises the best of both worlds of active and passive investment strategies. For example, smart beta investment strategies promise to generate alpha through factor-investing, and at the same time, are cheaper than active investment funds. In the CAS in Investment Management, different investment styles are analysed in a scientifically sound manner for their suitability in practice.

Das Risikomanagement von Finanzinstituten befasst sich mit der Identifikation und der Messung sowie der Überwachung aller Risiken, die den Fortbestand des Unternehmens gefährden könnten. Der CAS Risk Management for Banking and Finance rüstet Entscheidungstragende mit den hierfür notwendigen Kenntnissen aus.

Financial institutions are exposed to various financial risks, such as defaults by debtors or changing interest rates, and non-financial risks, such as operational risks. The risk management of financial institutions deals with the identification and measurement, as well as the monitoring, of all risks that could endanger the continued existence of the company. The CAS Risk Management for Banking and Finance equips decision-makers with the knowledge necessary to assess these risks.

Eine Unternehmensübernahme ist häufig ein komplexer Prozess und besteht aus der Vorbereitung, der Realisierung, der Preisverhandlung sowie der anschliessenden Integration. Der Übernahmepreis kann mithilfe unterschiedlicher Modelle geschätzt werden, jedoch ist schliesslich die Verhandlung zwischen Käufer und Verkäufer entscheidend. Bezahlt werden Übernahmen mit Cash oder Aktien des Käuferunternehmens. Diese Prozesse und deren potenzielle Schwierigkeiten werden im CAS Valuation and M&A beleuchtet.

A company takeover is often a complex process and consists of the preparation, realization, price negotiation and subsequent integration. The takeover price can be estimated using various models, but ultimately the negotiation between buyer and seller is decisive. Takeovers are paid for with cash or shares of the acquiring company. These processes and their potential difficulties are examined in the CAS Valuation and M&A.
